Lent Day 31

Ephesians 5:1-2

"Following God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

REFLECTION

This Scripture means to us that we are God's children and accepted and loved just as we are. We can walk in the way of love by being kind, helpful, caring, accepting, trusting and respectful.

Reflection by Ryan & Nancy

CONSIDER

How does someone fragrantly sacrifice themselves to God? What is selfless giving?

"A life lived in love for others is described as a pleasing, sweet smelling sacrifice to God."

Fragrance was important during Christ's time. No one took a shower or bath every day or even had a chance to even find water and probably didn't smell very good. Fragrant oils were special and expensive and meaningful and smelled really good. Doing good smells good to God.

PRAYER

Dear God, help us be a fragrant offering to you and to walk in the way of love. We want to be like Christ and love others just as Christ loves us, and be sweet smelling to you, we don't want to smell bad.

Amen

FAITH IN ACTION

Selfless giving is easy and feels good: let someone go ahead of you in line, hold a door, give someone a compliment, take time to say please and thank you - manners are important, be respectful, be helpful, spend time with family when they need you, and most importantly, listen to others.

DAILY GRATITUDE

Take a moment to name one thing you are grateful for today.

BIBLE NOTE: When Scripture talks about “walking,” it usually means daily living.
