A Rhythm for Lent: The Seven Spiritual Practices

Lent is not about doing everything perfectly.

It is about returning — gently, honestly, and consistently.

This year, alongside our Daily Lenten Devotionals, we are inviting our church community into seven simple spiritual practices. These practices will remain the same each week throughout Lent. Repetition builds rhythm. Rhythm shapes us.

You do not need to do all seven.

Choose one each day.

Return to the one that is helping you most.

Let these practices be companions, not assignments.

The Seven Practices

1. Read Slowly

Read the daily Scripture twice. Notice one word or phrase that stays with you.

2. Pray Honestly

Offer one honest sentence to God about your day.

3. Sit in Silence

Spend two quiet minutes in stillness. If your mind wanders, gently return to one word from the Scripture.

4. Practice Gratitude

Name three small things you are thankful for.

5. Offer Quiet Kindness

Do one simple act of kindness without drawing attention to it.

6. Reflect in Writing

Respond to the reflection question in a sentence or two.

7. Release Something

Let go of one small distraction, resentment, or habit for the day.

Throughout Lent, you’ll see a gentle reminder to return to one of these practices. There is no right way to do this. Start small. Begin again when you forget. That is the rhythm of the season.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday, our Daily Lenten Devotionals will be posted here each day and shared by email.

We look forward to walking this journey together.
