Lent Day 26
Psalm 130: 1-4
Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
REFLECTION
Psalm 130 doesn’t sound like a fancy prayer—it sounds like someone who has had enough. “Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.” This is despair talking. Not poetic despair. Real-life, worn-out, “I don’t know what else to do” despair.
By verse two, the tone gets urgent. This isn’t a calm conversation; it’s a plea. And by verse three, there’s honesty—owning mistakes without excuses. The psalmist isn’t trying to look good for God. It feels like talking to an old friend—someone who knows you well enough to handle your worst moments without needing politeness or perfect words.
The good news comes quickly: “But with you there is forgiveness.” God isn’t waiting for us to clean ourselves up. God wants us to come as we are—messy, honest, tired—and say what’s really going on. God is always there: merciful, accepting, and ready to bring peace. The hard part isn’t God forgiving us; it’s allowing ourselves to believe and accept that forgiveness.

CONSIDER
Is there something you’re holding back from God because of fear, shame, or guilt? What might it look like to speak honestly with God about it?
PRAYER
Merciful God, We cry out to you just as we are. You hear us, forgive us, and meet us with peace. Help us trust your mercy and share it with others. Amen.
FAITH IN ACTION
This week, pass on God’s grace. Choose one person and offer them extra patience, kindness, or forgiveness. Let something go. Listen more than you speak. Be a reminder that mercy is real.
DAILY GRATITUDE
Take a moment to name one thing you are grateful for today.
BIBLE NOTE: Lament psalms usually move from distress toward trust.
