Lent Day 20

Isaiah 60:17-18

Instead of bronze I will bring you gold, and silver in place of iron. Instead of wood I will bring you bronze, and iron in place of stones. I will make peace your governor and well-being your ruler. No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.

REFLECTION

This passage indicates to me a change for God’s People.  The symbolism is that inferior materials will be replaced with superior ones indicating a change for the people from ruin to glory.  Gold for bronze, Silver for Iron, and Bronze for wood.  Beyond just the material change, there is also indicated a government of peace and righteousness, by the statement Peace your governor and well-being your ruler.  Finally, the end of internal conflict leading to a tranquil society where conflict is eliminated.

CONSIDER

What part can you play in making this transformation occur?

PRAYER

Heavenly father, thank you for the promise of divine restoration and transformation.  I will look for all the replacements that you make available to me and will feel your glory arise over me and fill my surroundings.

DAILY GRATITUDE

Take a moment to name one thing you are grateful for today.

BIBLE NOTE: Restoration imagery is common in prophetic writing.
