Lent Day 22

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

REFLECTION

What is the Word in this passage?  The Word is Jesus Christ.  Jesus was always with God from the beginning of time.  Jesus was with God from the beginning of the World and the Universe.  He was here during the Creation.  God would not have made the world if not for Jesus.   Jesus is the light of all mankind. Jesus loves us all; he tells us how we should live; he tells us not to forget God, his father.  As the passage tells us at the end, Jesus is the light that darkness has not overcome.

CONSIDER

As I read this passage Jesus has been God since the beginning of time.  I had always thought that Jesus’s life started when he was born to Mary and Joseph.  However, Jesus has been with God forever.

FAITH IN ACTION

In your prayers remember that Jesus came to the world not only to teach us but to learn the ways of people.  He taught us how to live yet he also forgave our sins.

DAILY GRATITUDE

Take a moment to name one thing you are grateful for today.

BIBLE NOTE: Some passages are poetic and symbolic rather than literal narrative.
