Lent Day 10
Isaiah 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail.
REFLECTION
I am reminded that too much of my energy is spent on things that do not really matter – material things. I should look at the world around me & remember it is all temporary. I cannot expect fulfillment from acquiring more stuff. Trusting in God’s salvation will bring me peace.
Reflection by Mary Ann
CONSIDER
Practically speaking, we cannot completely disregard our physical needs or the needs of others. The question is “How much is too much? We probably all have more than enough of some things in our life. I know I have more than enough shoes! Why do I want more?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank you for all the blessings you have given me. Teach me to be satisfied with this abundance. Help me to value eternal things over earthly possessions. Allow my heart to be one of giving and compassion.
FAITH IN ACTION
I will try to be mindful of all the things I discard. Recycled items are not always used because of contamination and cost. Donated items are often sent to poorer countries; much of it end up in landfills and pollutes the ground, water, and air.
DAILY GRATITUDE
Take a moment to name one thing you are grateful for today.
BIBLE NOTE: Biblical poetry uses strong images to express hope and warning.
